History repeats itself. While the ancient idiom may seem repetitive, one has hardly to look further than the History Repeats social and outdoor campaign to gain appreciation for its relentless accuracy.

Created by Havas Munich, the series features pictures taken of major current events juxtaposed against comparable points in history. The resulting imagery is both immediately familiar and unavoidably distant, capturing not only the cyclicality of the human experience, but also the singularity of human nature.

This collection houses only a handful of the 130 million images held by Getty Images, one of the world’s largest and oldest private archives.
