The Stars and Stripes fly high in June

by The 100 Companies

On June 6, nearly 76 years ago, 156,000 American, British and Canadian soldiers began the liberation of France by bravely breaching Hitler’s vaunted “Atlantic Wall.”

Flag Day, on June 14, observes the 1777 adoption of the Stars and Stripes by the Continental Congress, symbolically unifying 13 once-disparate colonies into the singular nation that has had such a profound effect on world events during the intervening centuries.

The first weeks of June, following closely on the heels of Memorial Day, provide ample opportunity to reflect on our way of life and how it was earned through the service of countless Americans.
