Locals not yet sold on “Jax’” sculpture

by The 100 Companies

The new One Park Jax campaign exists to, “envision, design and construct a grand civic park that represents … all of Jacksonville.” But despite that, there are some locals who aren’t yet sold.

Specifically, the campaign’s plan to add a 151-foot-tall waterfront sculpture is causing a great deal of heartburn, either because of its multimillion-dollar cost or distinctive “pretzel” or “balloon animal” design. There was even an online petition to block artist Jefrë Manuel’s project that, in under a week, received over 20,000 signatures.

According to the city, the public will have an opportunity to provide input before plans are finalized.
